Finance stuff

The engineer in me did a quick spreadsheet on our costs of the journey today.  I excluded all the Hong Kong expenses, because they consist mostly of non-essential shopping and are misleading.

Bottom line: 9000 CHF for two people

That includes all transportation (incl. flight to/from Zürich), hotels, food, souvenirs, site entrance fees, etc. in India and China.  Major breakdown:

  • Flight Zürich – Delhi – HKG – Zürich 2200CHF
  • Flight HKG – China – HKG 1000 CHF
  • India travel costs 1100 CHF (3 weeks)
  • China travel costs 4600 CHF (6 weeks)

That means we are spending about 500 CHF / week / person (including everything).  For comparison, I have read that thrift travelers can live on about 200CHF / week.  But, on the other hand, there is this:

Two nights at this fly joint = our whole budget

Two nights at this fly joint = our whole budget

So, I guess we did not do so bad.
